DIANA, IN MEMORIAM It is ten years ago precisely that Diana, The Princess of Wales died. And in memory of her life and death I thought it appropriate to include a few thoughts here on Astrolutely.com. They come in the form of a chapter in my book, Starstruck.

Weekly Hello!
13th October 2008 - 19th October 2008
At last Mercury gets its act together so we can all stop fumbling around in the communication fog and start to see where we're going. Of course, we have learnt some valuable lessons during the past three weeks, not least the merits of patience and trust, but it will be good to put those virtues into practice instead of being force-fed delays and no-shows. I was born under a retrograde Mercury (no, not a wandering star...) so I don't get quite as fussed about the to-ings and fro-ings of this planet. Indeed, I come away from every period of retrogradation with a plus of some description. Nonetheless, with a full moon in Aries to boot this week, it may be that some things have done their day, and will never return to what they once were.

Month Ahead
1st October 2008 - 31st October 2008
Any month that opens with Mercury already in retrograde is bound to
produce a few travel and communication headaches, however, October has
the blessing of being relatively free from hard-angles involving the
outer planets (Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) so even though we may
be moving slowly and disappearing up a few blind alleys, it should all
be to good purpose - we may even enjoy ourselves. The full moon in
Aries on the 14th followed by Mercury's turning direct
(15th) will clear up a few mysteries and bring to an end any
doubts over the future of certain enterprises and politicians. The US
election will be getting in full stride by then so it will be
interesting to see what skeletons come rattling out of the Republican
and Democrat cupboards, just in time to sway voters one way or
t'other. Until the 23rd the sun and Mercury will be transiting
Libra, giving all of us an opportunity to mend fences and find more
balance in our lives but with Mars already in Scorpio and the sun's
entry into this passionate and intense water sign on the 23rd, the fear
and turmoil generated by the global economic tsunami will continue
unabated. One other small point, on the 4th November the opposition
between Saturn and Uranus reaches exactitude so the last few days of
October may well see tensions escalating between opposing factions,
wherever they may exist...

Penny Thornton 2008: Hello!
Our summer stars are dominated by the eclipses of 1st and 16th August. And of these two the total solar eclipse in Leo on the 1st is the most important. All eclipses have a fateful quality about them, whether they bring new lovers together, welcome a genius into our midst or cause a global event that takes our breath away. So, with the Beijing Olympics opening on the 8th August and closing on the 24th we can at the very least expect some controversial elements to these games, if not a full blown act of violence. (And just in case you're interested, the Chinese have set a very auspicious time for the opening of the Games: 08 08 08 pm on the 8th,which puts mystical and sacrificial Pisces on the Ascendant...) Pluto's entry into Capricorn in January earmarked this as the beginning of a new era for China, and the Olympic Games and the completion of the Shanghai World Financial Centre (the world's tallest building) are symbols of the growing dominion of this nation.
Saturn is currently in the sign of Virgo, and the last time this planet was here was between July 1978 and September 1980, which gave Europe two of the hottest summers on record. (So, bulk-buy the sunscreen and invest in some air-conditioning.) Possibly of even more interest, however, is that Saturn in Virgo is particularly favourable for women in politics (Margaret Thatcher being elected as Britain's first female Prime Minister in 1979 – a position she held until 1990) so Hillary Clinton has at least one astrological factor in her favour, and although this has denied her the Democratic nomination, she can expect a stellar position in the next government, if not some further accolades. There is an aura of austerity to a Virgoan Saturn, which is already apparent in the way that we are all having to downsize due to the credit squeeze and make a concerted effort to combat the ravages of global warming. Hem lines traditionally come down in a recession or a depression so flowing maxi dresses for the summer and long skirts for autumn/winter could all be hanging in our wardrobes.
Jupiter will be retrograding through Capricorn all summer, taking us back in time, whether we are forced to confront the error of our spending habits, our eating patterns or our relationship addictions! It will be a good time to right wrongs of all kinds while at the same time affirming our infinite self value. On a more serious note, however, we should remain somewhat suspicious of any positive forecasts about the economy, because according to the astrology, this is going to take a long time to fix.
It would be good to think that the planets would let us off our dreary life lessons for the summer but even under the hot sun and blue skies there is work to be done. Fortunately, there are some lovely influences surrounding our affairs, especially in July, so it is a case of making the most of what we have rather than pursuing that crock of gold at the end of a rainbow. Living in the moment is the recipe for happiness, and certainly my tip for a seriously happy summer. Enjoy.
